Missionary Quotes 3

Missionary Quotes 3 provides the last of my collection of missionary sayings, presently. We'll cover what they've had to say about life, living, death and dying.

However, as I mentioned earlier, I definitely plan to add to these pages as I find more quotes I find truly inspirational. If you don't find the quotes you're looking for here, you'll definitely want to check out the other two pages I've compiled.

The first covers quotes about God's call and Missionary Goals, the second covers quotes about missionaries' priorities, values, and prayers.

In all I trust the collection ending with missionary quotes 3, will be a blessing to you as it has been to me, and that you'll find it useful in serving the Lord.

Missionary Quotes 3
On Life and Living

Mary Slessor, quoted several times on missionary quotes 3, spent her life in Africa reaching people for Christ.

"Never pity missionaries; envy them. They are where the real action is --where life and death, sin and grace, Heaven and Hell converge." --Robert C. Shannon

"Love is the root of missions; sacrifice is the fruit of missions." --Roderick Davis

"The secret of all failure is disobedience." --Mary Slessor

"Sin is loss for time and eternity." --Mary Slessor

"The biggest hindrance to the missionary task is self. Self that refuses to die. Self that refuses to sacrifice. Self that refuses to give. Self that refuses to go." --Thomas Hale Missionary to Nepal

"Would that God would make hell so real to us that we cannot rest; heaven so real that we must have men there, Christ so real that our supreme motive and aim shall be to make the Man of Sorrows a Man of Joy by the conversion to him of many. --Hudson Taylor Missionary to China

"Believers who have the gospel keep mumbling it over and over to themselves. Meanwhile, millions who have never heard it once fall into the flames of eternal hell without ever hearing the salvation story." --K.P. Yohannan, Gospel for Asia

"God is not calling us to win the world and, in the process lose our families. But I have known those who so enshrined family life and were so protective of 'quality time' that the children never saw in their parents the kind of consuming love that made their parent's faith attractive to them. Some have lost their children not because they weren't at their soccer games or didn't take family vacations, but because they never transmitted a loyalty to Jesus that went deep enough to interrupt personal preferences." --David Shibley

"The spirit of Christ is the spirit of missions. The nearer we get to Him, the more intensely missionary we become." --Henry Martyn Missionary to India and Persia

"The best remedy for a sick church is to put it on a missionary diet." --David Livingstone

"This generation can only reach this generation." --David Livingstone

Sympathy is no substitute for action." --David Livingstone

"Oh that I had a thousand lives and a thousand bodies! All of them should be devoted to no other employment but to preach Christ to these degraded, despised, yet beloved mortals." --Robert Moffat

"Oh that I could spend every moment of my life to God's glory!" --David Brainerd

"That I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His suffering, being made conformable unto His death; If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead. Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

Brethren I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." --Apostle Paul Missionary to Asia Minor

Missionary Quotes 3
On Death and Dying

Eric Liddell, missionary to China, quoted on missionary quotes 3 left a promising sports career to serve the Lord.

"Death alone will put a stop to my effort!" --David Livingstone

"As I believe I am now nearing my departure from this world, I have but a few things to rejoice in. They are these:

  1. That God called me to China, and I went in spite of uttmost opposition from all my loved ones.
  2. That I joyfully acted as God told that rich young man to act.
  3. That I deliberately at the call of God, when alone on the Bibbly liner in 1910, gave up my life for this work, which was to be henceforth not for the Sudan only, but for the whole un-evangelized 'World.
My only joys therefore are that when God has given me a work to do, I have not refused. it." --C.T. Studd

Missionary Quotes 3
Closing Thoughts

I can assure you that my first exposure to many of the quotes used on missionary quotes 3, wasn't when I started researching for this page. I grew up hearing missionary stories, and listening to missionaries share their work in our church.

The Lord only knows which ones influenced me the most. But there is one additional quote I'd like to include in missionary quotes 3 since I know it has had a major impact on my life. I don't even know who said it, so I'm not sure it was a missionary, but if not, it certainly is in line with the way they think. This is the quote:

"Only one life, 'twill soon be past, only what's done for Christ will last." --Anonymous

This saying made a huge impact on me as a girl, and I've never forgotten it. I still think of it frequently today.

Additionally the words of that first great Christian missionary, the apostle Paul, have been a strong influence in my life, not only those quoted above in missionary quotes 3, but Phil. 4:13. "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."

He is the power behind every successful missionaries' life. May we never forget that truth!
